1 Joule Spring Firing >350 fps
« on: February 01, 2012, 05:19:44 pm »
I've recently purchased an ASG Steyr Aug A2 from JD Airsoft. On the items description on their website and ASG website they both say that it has a 1 joule spring inside it. I have chronoed it for the first time yesterday with a new UFC Pro chrono and was averaging 350-360 fps. . i dont particularly want to be buying replacement parts if i dont have to but i have contacted the seller and they told me it does happen. Does anyone have any advice for me as i am baffled as to how a spring that is described as 0.9-1.0 joule is producing 1.16-1.20J.

I thought JD Airsoft had gone out of business. There was a lot of fury towards them on these forums a while back.

As for the spring, you could fire a couple of hundred BB's through it to wear in the gun a little. May put it under 350fps. But the safest bet it to let Jeff clip the spring, like he said.

Is there a tolerance within chronographs?? The bloke i spoke to at JD airsoft said there could be up to a 10% tolerance on them, which seems strange as I thought that defies the point of the chrono.
And what difference would it make to chronoing it indoors??

that sounds like hes qouting the law on rifs. i lookd it up ages ago coz my dad didnt think that our guns were legal as 350 is over 1joule and he said 1 joule is illegal in a reapeating action rifle or summat i cant remember exactly. it says that the law is 328fps with a 10% tolerance at chrono. 10% = 32.8 ergo 350.

sounds to me like hes trying to say dont worry as sites can have a 10% tolerance meaning the maximum is 350.

chop the spring as most sites now will only take 328fps without the 10% tolerance. we went to a site once and none of us had guns that passed chrono as anything over 328 wasnt allowed and most of ours are 335ish
