They're brining back prone too!  :D I sorely missed that from Bad Company 2. I hope the maps are truly epic too, bad company did have big maps but none felt as big as those in Battlefield 2. Looking forward to sneaking all the way to the enemy airfield on foot then planting C4 on the enemy planes XD.

Slightly dissapointed there will only be 4 classes and apparently no commander  :(

Post by: Dibs on February 25, 2011, 04:02:40 pm
there will be 5 classes

assault
support
engineer
medic
recon

as for commander im not sure.

Are you sure? It says 4 on this 'what we know so far' forum post:

http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-3/1389267-battlefield-3-what-we-know.html

Could be wrong though, i would love it if medic didnt have a stupid support gun like the m60 that was in BC2!

Also new trailer :D

Certainly does look awesome. I'll be getting my copy on the Eggsbochs, mostly because my PC is shart and doesn't have the guts to run modern games. But also because I can't be arsed faffing about getting it working.

I just hate playing shooters on a pad, need mouse and keyboard. Takes me a fortnight to aim with a thumbstick thingy, by which time I'm very dead.

Wow... there goes my MW3 preorder.

At least I keep the poster.  :aeg:

:Like

the original release date was after xmas the 29th of Dec but i think with MW3 being released in Nov i think EA wanted to hurt their sales badly.

ill be getting both but im more of a BF3 guy than anything.

My thoughts exactly, Oh what it is to be a part of the PC gaming master race <3, and of course the fact that the Frostbite 2 engine is massively optimized for PC makes it all the better for us, those 2 580s in mine will do their work properly now :3, EVGA SSC that is

I much prefer playing shooters on the PC, it just wouldn't be anywhere near grunty enough to run it without looking shit so I just get it for the Xbox.

Gonna tool out a pc again for this, no 64 players on console and BF imo always has belonged on the PC, Bad Company has had its day, PC will reign in BF again.

Not that it will matter for a while for me, yet another game to add to the evergrowing list of awsome games coming out when im in ghaners. Bah!
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Dibs on July 03, 2011, 10:34:25 am
ill be getting the two of them

the release date for BF3 was originally the 29th of December but due to COD being released a month earlier EA wanted to hurt hurt their sales and give COD fanatics a slap in the face and wake up to the Frostbite 2 engine which will be the ultimate knife in the back to Infinity ward.

thats what i think COD is missing, is that realism with the enviroment but BF3 has taken it to a whole new level.

COD ill be getting for the PS3 and BF3 for the PC to keep both myself and my friends happy

Yeah, Frostbite is what I love about the Battlefield series. No better feeling taking someone out by blowing a hole in a wall with a 40mm grenade or downing a building with C4. Modern Warfare just doesn't cut it in that regards and after playing Battlefield, it spoils the experience.

I played the Alpha for all of 5 mintues. The graphics look worse then BF:BC2, and the killfeed sound, logos and text is just ripped from MOH. As are the overhead Icons. They appear to have merged them both together and are calling it BF3.

I agree, so much so that I've cancelled my pre-order.

I've always been a COD fan (except COD3 - that was just shockingly bad!) and was a late comer to BF2 (2 months ago), but I found multiplayer had something that Black Ops lacked and it was pretty enjoyable.  The beta of BF3 however seems to have changed too many things, even if they are just little things like the lobby, its far to easy to press the wrong button whilst customising and you deploy yourself!

Love using the pistol and get streaks getting me a good kill and death ratio  :bravo:
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Scarve on October 03, 2011, 12:06:25 pm
I've never found Battlefield multiplayer to be any good.  I went out and bought BC2 after everyone raved about it.  I found myself using a sniper rifle, trying to shoot people from afar and getting picked off from miles away by people using XM8 rifles.

Then there's the vehicles.  Jesus f**k! Talk about unbalanced.

Methinks I will give this a miss.

The Bad Companies are crap compared to the Orginal Battlefields tbh, Battlefield 2, 2142 and 1942 kick the shit out of BFBC1 and BFBC2, the multiplayer is miles better, BC3 is in the same format as those, not like the crappy Bad Company Multiplayer system

And I'm guessing you guys are playing it on console? which it probably is awful on, BF3 and the frostbite 2 engine are completely optimized for the PC so I think console gamers will lose out a bit unfortunately, it was the same for BF2 and its counterparts (Spec ops, 1942, 2142 etc etc) which never even came out for the Consoles, and like I said they absolutely destroyed the Bad Companies which I think were absolute crap, and tbh there is no other game like this for me, I fruitopian hate COD every single one of them even on PC, so yea looking forward to it :3.
And if I'm honest I wouldn't judge the final product off the back of an Alpha/Beta because the end product will have a lot of changes, as I've found out all too many times.

exactly, BF2, 2142 and Vietnam were some of the best games ive ever played online, BC2 is too spammy, unbalanced and full of a*holes who just want to fly choppers and not give a rubber ducky about the rest of the game.

however im finding the beta awfully buggy compared to alpha, corpses shoot back at you, and to be frank thats really annoying, and i find that people are ranking up WAY too easy.  ive given it only around 3 hours or so of gameplay and ive hit rank 9 and some sad acts are already at ranks 40 or above.

why spoil the full game and play the beta THAT much?

Heard mixed things about the beta. My internets been down for a week so haven't had the chance to play it my self.
Personally think it's sad when developers make games 'optimized' for certain platforms. But you can't please everybody

Let's hope that BF3 has all it's kinks ironed out by release time. They should have some sort of system so that quick reviews like C-X's can get straight to the developers.

Meanwhile, I'll be playing Magicka; Vietnam because I'm too poor to afford any of these new games.

Personally, I really enjoyed the beta. 100000x better than BC2 even in beta phase in my mind. Okay, so finding my self disappearing into the map and having the game freeze on a few of the menus forcing me to restart the console was a bit annoying but I played the beta a lot more than I've played fifa 12 so far.....

Quick note to all PC players with a pre-order on Origin.

You can unlock the game early but connecting to a VPN or Proxy in Korea or Indonesia.
SP & MP work fine once unlocked, even after disconnecting from the proxy.

Have fun, been playing since 4.

ive had nothing but issues with this since its release, i couldnt get into a server, when i could it would only let me play for 4 mins before freezing, single player worked fine though.

then i performed a repair install, updated my drivers and what not and then origin crashes and the game uninstalls itself, i click the install button, it says "installing" for a few seconds then it goes back to the ready to install button.

removed origin, checked for directx updates, removed all battlefield and origin files remaining on the computer, downloaded and installed origin and now i have to redownload origin and i couldnt even use my activation codes. EA need to man up and just take more time to make a game that works for everyone rather than getting it out before COD because the amount of complaints about these problems and more are giving the COD fanboys ammo to diss BF3 while it is a good game its just EA making it overly complicated with the ORIGIN and Battlelog crap we have to use to play the game.

Whilst I have no doubt that this is an awesome game, I've had to stop myself from buying it purely because of MW3, and the fact that all my friends will be buying it. So as a social aspect, it'll always be MW3 for me. Plus I get paid the day before its release. Shame as I wanted BF3 too

as a massive BC:BF2 fan was eagerly waiting BF3 , and in all honesty was not disappointed , BUT  there are still some annoying glitches that need attention  having said that though the sheer variety of weapons an unlocks is staggering not to mention the Jets and I for 1 thought that the addition of prone would lead to a sniper fest , but I was wrong its definately added to the game , its feels a lot more tactical and god help the run 'n' gun brigade they'll have to learn to play intelligently quickly or Die ... a lot.....anyways thats just my thoughts , see you on the field I'll be the one trying to fly a jet ...

Sp is ok but I'm chomping at the bit for mp.

I only played the beta for about 12 hours and was level 20 so to be up to 22 already is achievable after only a few days. I think it will be very easy of you are a decent medic

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but i can't stand the stupid engine 'trigger' in this game.
You have to stand at a certain point in order to trigger the next level....!!

If you flank the enemy but the captain stays in the centre, no matter how many bad guys you shoot the game just infinitely spawns bad guys until the cows come home.
Go and stand where the blue marker is and the level moves on to the next phase.
Very frustrating as it's forcing you to behave in a certain way.

Whoever wrote that needs a slap

Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3

The multiplayer has been rushed through, even with the beta testing there are some major bugs -

Screens have far too much environment flicker/ghosting.

The lag on a lot of servers/games is a nightmare - it makes sniping near enough impossible, plus changing it to the COD hold your breath wobble all over the screen scenario makes it worse.

It appears to capture flags properly in a vehicle you have to get out, don't know if this is intentional but it's annoying!

Shooting people in the head with a weapon should kill them, not let them stand there and take it then kill you with one shot!
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Greg on November 03, 2011, 04:38:36 pm
Regarding the lag, DICE have been taking the servers down constantly to upgrade them. However I do agree on the damage. A buckshot to the face should kill someone, helmet or not!

But I reckon it ill be patched up soon. And I can cap flags fine in vehicles :/
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3

I'm going to have a play with the vehicle bug tonight and see what happens, I only noticed it on Caspian Border at the Petrol station, as soon as I was out of the tank it started to work.

Frustration got the better of me last night, took 12 attempts to join a game, joined game, killed 2 with headshots using the sidearm, grabbed a set of tags and the server went down!
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3

You can cap flags in vehicles. Hell, you can do it hovering in a helo if you're low/close enough. Risky though. If you're at a flag point and it's not capping, there will be an OpFor in the area preventing you from doing so. You need to kill them or hope they fruity bun-loaf off.

I'm loving this game though, it's great fun. Got mine on the Xbox the other day and logged 5hrs online play so far. It can get a little frustrating sometimes if the OpFor steamroller you and cap all the flags (Conquest) and make your life fruitopian hard to get out of spawn, but I guess they're able to do that because the team is more organised and less shit. Fneh.

Also, Sainsbury's have an offer on at the moment. The game is £25 if you buy 2100 Microsoft Points (£17). £43 over the counter will see you with the Limited Edition of the game and points to spend on the inevitable map packs and other DLC they will release to make more monies. It's probably nearly a tenner cheaper if you buy online, but meh.

Also also, Blockbuster will sell you the game for £15 if you trade in a game from their list in store. Worth popping in to see if you have a redundant copy of one of the games on the list.

Finally signed up to xbox live to play this online.

I don't think I've ever played a less noob friendly game. No manual, no advice on any controls, and other players seem to have a massive advantage over me. torches, lasers, thermal, guns that work. Chances of getting in a heli or a jet, zero.

Was much better when I was in a squad that worked together, just need some friends on xbox live now

I know that feeling well, there needs to be a better player matching system - I'm constantly getting in games with level 40+ I may aswell just throw stones at them!

I find playing on the American servers to be suicide as they all are 25+++. Try some of the euro servers.

On another note. I laugh at the fact the PC elietists were mocking the consoles, but when push comes to shove the consoles dominated as they are just more stable. With the PC one tiny miss installed file by steam/origin then thats your arse.

Dibs- you could just refund your virtual copy (?) and pick it up on a disc, was on GameFAQ's forum and almost everyone on there got a hard copy of it

Funny you mention that because Gears of War 3 doesn't come with a manual either. Perhaps it's the sign of the times where they are trying to go 'green' and making an online manual. Shame as I always like to have a gander at the manual before I like to play a game

Batman: Arkham City doesn't come with a manual either.

Anyway, back to topic.
I've had none of the lag or connection problems that some people have been experiencing. Though Myself and Metalboa did have an issue with a sniper who managed to take two full mags from the pair of us, and still dropped the pair of us with ruthless effiency.

Well its been a few weeks, glad to say the lag issues have almost gone, there can be a slight slowdown on games sometimes with numerous vehicles/explosions.

Not liking the way they changed the sniper rifles, so I've stuck with engineer.  Have been playing the single player campaign and have found it's much better than I expected.

Dibs- you could just refund your virtual copy (?) and pick it up on a disc, was on GameFAQ's forum and almost everyone on there got a hard copy of it

it has been fixed there was a major data leak, just modded one of the applications to use so much of my memory and tadda its fixed.

My first PC game to play online in quite some time, and was really excited...especially after all the hype...

The whole matchmaking/server thing is a giiiiiiant failure....

Took me 5 tries to get into a match after I first installed.... from getting the message 'install complete' it took half an hour to get into my first match.
Im a bit let down to be honest.

I would have gotten it on console but I ain't paying extra for live (not to mention an extra £20+ for the xbox version of exactly the same game)...and im not paying extra for a PS3...

I'll see what its like when i can get my mates online in the new year, Otherwise It will be stuffed in my draw and tried again in a few months when hopefully they have patched the everloving hell out of their 'origin' thing (seeing as I cant trade in/sell it).

So disregard my other grievances :p
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Curly on January 15, 2012, 02:11:52 pm
Majority of the server problems my squad and I have on this are because of the sheer number of players, and what seems to be a fairly substantial gap between the actions in joining.. so you get..

Game Looks for Server

Finds Server

Queries number of slots

Joins.

And there's a gap between these last two, during which, other players join, filling the slots. Going in via Custom Browser and picking servers with more like 15 (don't worry, they fill up fast) players should help.

If you're still struggling, stay away from the servers which are owned by EA, and have strings of letters in their names, stick to DICE servers with names like SERVER101413.

Oh, and I love this game. Those with B2K, though, don't forget... there are new Achievements, and one of them is bugged!

Longest is about 420 and that was a fluke with the SV98.

I don't have the patience to snipe but I may just equip the shotgun and run round like a loon with that to level up to the decent sniper rifles.

Log on to the leader boards and you'll see shots that are remarkable. Sadly mind is only 328 and that's likely to stay that way because I just bought a PC and The Old Republic. That is unless I buy BF3 for PC too.

DO IT! then add me and join my platoon.

shotguns are slowly becoming one of my prefered weapons along with PDW's especially on urban maps where using a sniper rifle is just lame.

Back to Karkand pants? I love the old maps ^^ only problem is the F35 which can not turn at all without it suddenly thinking its a helicopter when you brake and go into hover mode. The new CQB maps though look like they could be a great deal of fun, with some cool new weapons too.

The bullets going round corners thing is just the general lag time, I remember it happening it pretty much ever FPS I've played. I like how they have added the iron sights back to some guns if a scope is attached, e.g. the M24OB. Didn't look right without them :L

Undecided on the patch, kinda used to vehicles taking a hammering now tanks just seem to be instant death as everyone I played was an engineer!

Weapon fire and bullet spread will take some getting used to

Taking down choppers with anti air seems tough now but satisfying when they go down with one shot

Also, is it just me have they tarted up the graphics on the Xbox a bit?

I've always been an avid call of duty fan, would still always buy battlefield and medal of honour, but 99% of my online play was with the call of duty series until battlefield 3 came out! I'm liking the fact that you can't get really high up rank wise really fast so you always have a fair bit to look forward too. Not been talked about, so thought I'd take it upon myself. Since it's just be released, what's people's thoughts on Premium? Is it worth the price? What people most like? Most looking forward to? Personally I find the price is a bit high, but its still worth it, and much looking forward to Armoured Fury.
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Baby Buster on June 13, 2012, 08:51:00 am
The price is not bad if you do intend on playing it non stop, though to be honest, smaller more frequent content drops are better than just whacking new maps out once a few month. And server priorities? That's a bad move.
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: FakeMessiah on June 13, 2012, 09:18:07 am
Yeh server priority's will make no sense, considering probably a lot of people will get it, it will basically be the same as it already is. A bit annoyed to as the reason I bought the Limited Addition was mainly so I could get new maps for free, so I feel I kinda wasted that extra cash back when I got the game as there was seemingly no point with this coming out. Still quite a few nice extra guns, features, etc. Now I just need to get that extra cash to get it then play the hell out the new maps after exams  :D
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Curly on June 13, 2012, 11:12:37 am
If you're going to buy all the map packs anyway, Premium will save you money in the long run, and get you various nice goodies like a new knife, early access, and camo. The server priority thing isn't actually priority as such - it only, as far as I've seen, prioritises you in -queues-. So while you'll get to the top of a queue to join a full game, it won't kick people so you can join.

C
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: FakeMessiah on June 13, 2012, 03:51:11 pm
Difference between Elite and this however is Elite is a subscription, while Premium is just a one off payment. The server priority thing always meant you only get to the top in queue's . Kicking people to make way for you would be not a good idea at all. I wasn't going to buy all the maps, thats why I bought the limited addition, which they said as they did for BC would have it so all DLC's were free for you. If they now changed that, thats a cheap move, and even know I'd only be paying for the guns, camo's and all those goodies if so, I could still see myself buying it.
Title: Re: BATTLEFIELD 3
Post by: Baby Buster on June 13, 2012, 10:18:29 pm
The problem with beating the queue with the premium service is that it feels in a way that casual gamers with no interest are being pushed to the side because someone wants to use their wallet. It's a very bad move as it punishes those for not having this membership. The extra guns and all isn't so bad but DLC does tend to rip you off. I did get rid of this game the to get ghost recon mind.

What I've now found out and don't like is the change to revives. Before if you were revived and you hadn't accepted it yet and were killed it wasn't counted as a kill. Now it does, not sure if you still get points but if so I think that is rather unfair.

I'm a PC BF3 player, I already owned BF3 and back to karkand pack. Whats annoyed me about going to premium is it's cost me £40 to basically buy the game all over again even though I already own it. Yeah I know get the next bunch of add on packs included in the price... but I think it's silly that I have had to pay again. They should have done a knocked down price for people who already owned the base game and karkand.

But, Enough moaning... What a great game! Whats your fave class and weaponry?

I do pretty well with engineer and the G36 with laser sight, rod dot, and hand grip. Also javelin kicks ass! Way over powered.

My worst, recon kit. Just cant seem to score very high when I'm in sniper kit mode. Leveling up the recon has proven to be slow and nightmareish.

Also, mortar... Find it very difficult to find places to set my mortar up, it's kindda like cracking a safe... I have to be very precise or it wont deploy. Any ideas?

Flat ground behind cover, simple. However I simply would not bother with the mortar, no one uses it these days for the reason that it is basically useless. Too weak and if you do get a kill chances are the guy you killed will just come back with his own mortar and immediately take you back out.

However favourite class etc. just give me an American LMG and the 1911 and I will be sorted.

Havent gone premium yet. I stopped this for a while to go back to bf2 as the back to karkhand pack made me feel a bit of nostalgia. Any reports on the new close quarters maps. Are they as call of duty as i sadly imagine them to be?

Nope they are not (surprisingly), however I much prefer the standard maps and Karkand, Metro for me was CQB enough, it's hard to survive for a long time in CQ DLC maps.

Absolutely love this game, the only thing stopping me from getting premium is the price, £40 to get it just seems to high £20-£25 i would pay, but £40 is way to much.

I love the recon class, only had the M98B like a week and i got 300 kills with it already, and im also very close to the longest sniper shot on PS3 (longest is 961M i have 849M)

Also trying to platinum this on PS3, so any help with the Co-op would be awesome.

Question: What is your favourite gun and why? My favourite gun(s) would be the P90 or the M98B, P90 is just freakin awesome, and the M98B is just one of the most acurate snipers i have ever used on a game, especialy at long range.

Matt

I doubt the AC130's will be in the air long enough to be effective. But it'll be fun trying.

I can imagine them actually being really difficult to take down. Apparently there is 15 positions for it, which I doubt. But with the Gatling guns as a solid defence, a long with what I suspect as a great deal of vehicle damage needed to take it down, and it to have the ability of counter measures, I could see if being a rather tough one. Will mostly likely just get spammed with stingers however, as every plane seems to these days when people get pissed.

From what I hear balance wise, the AC-130 is always placed against a team with jets... so it becomes jets vs AC mostly. And 15 seats is wrong - check that trailer carefully. You can see it only has two seats in one of the clips (where the guy is inside the AC).

Mate and I went through the trailer fairly closely. We identified what looks like a new chopper, with four seats and guns/cannons for the pilot, possibly other stuff for passengers/gunners, a new light tank with a main tank gun on it (next to the MLRS thing), the MLRS, and we think we saw a quadbike. Looks pretty awesome :D.

Yeh thought as much 15 seats sounded way too much. And I believe there is T-72 tank or something similar, at least from the pictures given.

Have to commend EA. They know how to make kickass videos that 99% of the time shows footage that never plays like the the game you buy  :P

I think almost every company does that, its what helps sell...and it works.

Yes thats how you hook people. Its what every company does but EA are notorious for it to the point of displaying an almost different type of game. Have to dig up the Kotoku article about it, makes for some good reading.

Well Armoured Kill has certainly put a smile of my face today, it is truly epic despite no new weapons.

Its actually pretty un-nerving running around now as infantry..... sorry, un-nerving ... I meant hellishly fun  :aeg:

It seems like most people (on the pc at least) ignore anything smaller than a quad bike at the moment. So just get out your rpg, repair tool or mines and have at it!  :D

Am still yet to upgrade to premium, slightly regretting it now. If it is on sale one day I will pick it up but I already paid for a special edition and I am not paying for a special addition to a game that I bought specifically because it is special edition because I paid a little more for it out of my long love for the (main) Battlefield franchise and now they have the cheek to ask us to pay more again...

Ofcourse it all comes down to money at the end of the day but a discount for the players who bought the special/limited edition would have been nice. I blame EA shoving its finger up DICE's chocolate starfish to get some more money. So glad Valve declined EA's proposition to buy Steam because they failed so miserably with Origin.

But anyway, Armoured Kill does indeed look like it would tickle my fancy and might just nudge me to upgrade to premium.

Oh, another thing that irritates me, when people who have been hating on BF from the day it was announced but then came to the game in only the third installment and then proclaim themselves to be an elitist of the franchise.... urgh.

Actually come to think of it, I just hate a majority of the console gaming community.

I've not been very active on the forum lately, however, that was just my (if rather late) two cents.
