General Discussion / TM Boys range in uk
« on: May 24, 2013, 05:39:13 pm »
For those old enough to remember the range without giggling at the name, does anyone know if you can still get the 75% scaled TM 'Boys' range in the UK?  Also, any views as to whether they count as a RIF? They are after all dwarf replicas.

The Boys range were AA powered, low power but realistic AEG's that retailed around the £40 mark. Completely unsuitable for skirmishing, but lots of fun around the house. :)

Games and Gaming / Gaming pc on a budget
« on: September 02, 2012, 04:30:19 pm »
Ok. My PC rig is old... like single core Windows XP old. It also smokes unhealthily now I turn it on. Yeah, I know, so do I, but I'm aiming to give up. It's just that I think the PC will give up before me.

I don't really use it much other than farting around with older games that I pick up cheap (think Battlefield 2, C&C generals - that era) , so don't want to spend a huge amount on a new one. My budget is around £400 - I've got a good monitor, keyboard, mouse etc, so it's just the base unit I'm after.

So I throw down the gauntlet of getting you guys to spec me up a pc (inc windows 7 please) that will come in at £400..

And if it could play World of tanks without laughing, that'd be great.  :P

The Gearbox / G & G combat machine GBBR? Any experience?
« on: August 06, 2012, 05:50:02 pm »
Not much in terms of reviews or field tests to be found on the net, but wondered if anyone has any views on the G&G GBBR now out. At £149 for an M4 they seem.. cheap.

Anyone had hands on one yet?

Dragon Valley / New areas
« on: July 18, 2012, 07:31:19 pm »
Ok, so I'm excited by the new areas of play we saw Sunday. Thought I'd ask what other people though of what we have seen so far? Any new tactics people are thinking off? Things you'd like to see?

My thoughts are that some cover around Blair Out might be beneficial, and games will be less likely to have choke point as a larger area means that there is more opportunity to circumnavigate the site in a game to find a new approach. I also wonder it there is the intention to fit the days playing area to the number of players, 'telescoping' the site size to ensure optimum player density.

What's the thoughts of others?

The Gearbox / 7.4 2600 lipo not likey TM recoil Socom
« on: July 17, 2012, 08:11:04 pm »
Ok, any ideas why a 7.6v 2400mah  lipo would cause my Socom TM recoil to intermittently not fire on full auto? Works fine with a 8.4v nimh.

Only clue is rate of fire has gone up. Could it possibly be too fast to cycle the gearbox fast enough? Single fire is fine, and it will fire full auto occasionally.

The Gearbox / Good drop leg holster
« on: July 01, 2012, 08:53:24 pm »
Drop leg holsters. My experience of them is one of two: either they flop around and always feel like they are just about to fall off, or else are so tight they stop blood circulation within 5 minutes.

However, having just got myself a new WE Glock 18c, I want to be able to carry it with a long 50 round mag in securely, whilst running.

Anyone got any good suggestions for ones that don't fall in to the two camps mentioned above?

The Gearbox / REAPS mini review
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:43:11 pm »
Hi

After finding few reviews for the REAPS hop rubber online (and I hope that people can find this online here from Google as I know I'd have found one useful), here's my little mini review.

The REAP hop rubber is a cheap replacement hop rubber that replaces your standard hop rubber. It's easy to fit, and cost me ten dollars, so it's cheap too.

I fitted mine to a standard TM recoil M4 with no gearbox upgrades. After testing today (yeah, I was the one at lunch firing at the barrel and measuring out paces), I can say that it is an upgrade to standard TM hops. Measuring out 1m paces, and shooting at a standard oil barrel, I was adding about 7m of usable range to the gun, and about 10m of total range. Usable range means range you can actually reliably hit something with, total meaning the extra as to when the bob actually hits the ground.

Also had a chance to test it against a a standard TM recoil, which was a good chance to prove the findings. Again, the REAP showed a noticeable range increase.

So, worth fitting? Considering the chrono on .2g bb's showed a reading of 280, there's no evidence here that it increases FPS. Instead, there is a noticeable range increase.

HOWEVER, there is a noticeable loss of accuracy. As reported elsewhere, shots tend to climb towards the end of their flight, drifting left and right. Might have been the wind, but ultimately I felt range had been achieved at the loss of accuracy.

In summary, for those looking to increase range without any gear box or spring upgrades, it might be worth a look, but don't go thinking it's an uber OMG upgrade.

The Gearbox / M4 stockpipe wrench for Sunday the 17th
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:24:08 am »
Hi all

Does anyone have an M4 stockpipe wrench I can use on Sunday? I need to tighten a TM M4 stock pipe that's a little wobbly.

Cheers

Ok, so it's a deliberate and mischeivous title, but anyway...

With the growing take up of gas rifles, the increasing prevelance of recoil engine AEGs, and a still growing choice of non recoil traditional AEGs, I thought a chance to discuss the merits of all three, and why users go for one or another would be a least fun.

Me? I prefer recoiled AEGs. No gas to fuss with, recoil that's similar, but not quite as powerful, as gas blow back rifles, and a lot less matainance and downtime.

However, COops said a few games ago that the future of airsoft gaming is gas blow back?

What's the view of everyone here? Why do you use what you do? Are you going to change soon?

No eye gouging, groin shots or bum rushes.. :D

The Gearbox / Double Eagle M4 Tri-barrled Shotty - any experiences?
« on: May 14, 2012, 01:00:05 pm »
The Double Eagle M55 tri-barreled shotgun. It's £50, what looks like to be a TM M3 Super 90 clone, and according to the online reviews, it's delivers all you'd expect for £50.  :)

However, shotties are fun, challenging to play with (read 'bloody-near-impossible-to-effectively-use-against-an-AEG-toting-team', and would be lots of fun for me, so I thought I'd ask on here if anyone's got any first hand experiences?

The Gearbox / R or IR Hop - any experiences out there?
« on: May 11, 2012, 04:52:44 pm »
Anyone installed R-Hops or IR Hops here?

After seeing the REAPS system, which appears to be just a version of the R-Hop ( available here, http://www.air-lab.co.uk/products/z-kit.html), I wondered if anyone's got any first hand experience of how well they perform?
