I've just got home aching and tired. It's been a fantastic day, if a little cold, with some great games and some funny moments. Hearing "There's Darth Vader!" and "Vader's making a run for it" never tired. Funniest moment though was another Blue player saying "Marshal, am I hitting that teddy bear over there?" .

Congrats to those that won the raffle and the shiny new GBBs. I wasn't jealous at all. Oh no. Not in the slightest :P. Still, I was chuffed to have won best fancy dress, the work converting the mask to be Airsoft safe paid off. Ears are still ringing from several shots to the helmet though.  :giggedy:

I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank Jeff and the other marshals for running a superb site (and, of course, Nikki for the scrumptious food she puts on each game day, especially the buffet today) and wish them all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing you all in 2012 for another great year at Dragon Valley. :bravo:

The Gearbox / Suitable mesh for goggles - need to modify a mask
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:55:42 am »
Hello all,

I have a mask at home that I need to modify to make it suitable for use at DV for the Christmas special.

Firstly, where can I get suitable mesh from? Is there anything specific I should search for or a specific retailer that sells it?

Secondly, would securely hot-melt glueing it to the inside of the mask in place of the plastic eyes that are there now be suitable or is there a preferred method of fixing it?

I don't want to go to the effort of modifying the mask to turn up and be told it's not suitable for use.

Thanks!

Dragon Valley / Dragon Valley Interactive Site Map
« on: November 17, 2011, 07:38:50 pm »
Hello all,

Following some of the comments about the DV site map, I've had a faff and come up with an interactive one enabling users to add layers to the map indicating where buildings, structures, tunnels etc are located. I'm not sure if the locations of some of the structures (such as the Pie Shoppe/AA Base) or the boundaries are exactly right but they're edited easily enough. I've used the Dragon Valley CSS and borrowed a banner image to give it the familiar look of the DV site. It shouldn't take too much effort to integrate somewhere if the idea takes off.

http://m0nkfish.co.uk/Airsoft/DragonValley/InteractiveMap.html

I've used GIMP to create the layers and saved them as separate .png files. The GIMP .XCF can be found here. I'm also considering having clickable links on the various areas and buildings of the site that take the user to a new page containing information and pictures about it, possibly even including floor plans and entry points etc.

Let me know what you think and if there any mistakes/improvements/other suggestions. :bravo:

Dragon Valley / 15th May game day - Review and pictures
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:20:59 pm »
What an awesome day! Weather held off save for the odd bit of drizzle although it did get a bit breezy towards the end of the day. Games ran nicely although the 5th (I think) game where the Blues had to get the scientist to the Shit House from the SAM Site seemed to go very stagnant very quickly due to the Blues getting there within two minutes. Chatting to some Reds afterwards, it seems they didn't know where we would be going. Perhaps saying something like "The Blues are likely to be heading to <insert 3 buildings>" to at least give them a chance of getting there in time? Meh.

All in all, fantastic day, lots of fun and no flared tempers (that I noticed). Thanks to the marshals and thanks to Nikki for the curry! Yum yum.

Also, flea market seemed popular with some good deals. Would be nice to see that every so often.

The Gearbox / [Query] TM Hi-Capa 5.1 slide replacement
« on: March 28, 2011, 11:13:06 am »
A quick and hopefully simple query:

A friend of mine is selling a TM Hi-Capa 5.1 (with three mags and a Serpa holster) for what I believe to be a reasonable amount of beer tokens and I'm very tempted to buy it. It has one minor issue in that the slide lock is a bit fickle and sometimes doesn't lock the slide back. This has apparently been caused by the pistol being run on Green Gas rather than 134A, which has worn the bit that catches (check out my technical jargon!). Here's a pic, although it was taken on 8th June 2010 and probably doesn't help.

I've been told the issue can be fixed by replacing the slide.

1) Is that true?
2) How easy is it to replace the slide?
3) Assuming a metal upgrade is the best way forward, where can I get one from? (I've had a quick squint on Fire Support and Land Warrior and can't see anything, but I am a massive mong and may have missed them)
4) I'm guessing the metal slide would give MOAR recoil, but at the expense of fire rate or something?
5) Profit?

KTHXBAI! :D

General Discussion / Intruder shot with air rifle - Common sense prevails
« on: February 18, 2011, 12:00:23 pm »
http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/news/shot-armed-burglar-air-rifle-man-19-sees-intruder-carrying-iron-bar/article-3237458-detail/article.html

As with the topic title, an intruder was discovered in someone's house having smashed their way in with a metal bar. The house owner saw them off by shooting them twice with his air rifle. Both people reported the incident to the Police, who thankfully sided with the house owner. As did the Judge, who sent the burglar down for 18 months. No charges were brought against the home owner. I'm sure things may have been different if the burglar had been killed, although you do have a right to defend yourself and your property and use reasonable force to remove the threat. Common sense prevails, thankfully.

Question is, if you discovered an intruder in your house, would you confront them with a RIF? I certainly would. The sight of what looks to be a real firearm would probably stop them in their tracks. And if it didn't, a hail of BBs point blank at ~350ft/s certainly would slow them down!

Discuss.

The Gearbox / Charger advice/suggestions
« on: February 06, 2011, 11:09:25 pm »
I want to get myself a charger so I can charge the battery at home and be sure it has enough juice to last a full day as mine died twice today. Suggestions/advice if you will please. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I also don't want to get something shit that will cook the batteries.

Battery is 8.4v 1500mAh NiMH with a small connector to fit my CYMA AK-47.

Ta!  :D

The Gearbox / Weapons advice/questions...
« on: November 26, 2010, 01:43:38 pm »
Hello ladies  :D

I've been thinking about what weapons to get once I've finally got UKARA and I'm just after some advice 'n' such on them, whether they'd be suitable and whether a certain brand's version is better than the other. Loadout/kit wise, I don't really have a specific theme in mind at present. Having seen a couple of pictures from the 21st, what I was wearing on the day doesn't look all that bad surprisingly, so I think I'll expand on that. I guess I'm aiming at a sort of freelance bodyguard/mercenary type look rather than a specific military appearance.

Anyway, guns guns guns guns...

For a primary, I'm thinking either Steyr Aug (Military) or FAMAS F1. I like the look of both of these and I don't think they're all that common (certainly not compared to Armalite stuff anyway), which is good. Not sure how I'd get on with the bullpup design, although it being a shorter weapon should help with some CQB stuff. Would they be suitable for a starter weapon out of the box? I also like the appearance of the UMP, which would be handy with its folding stock.

Secondary wise, I'd run a pistol. I've always liked handcannons like the Desert Eagle, M1911 and M9 Beretta, although I believe they're all fairly common which I'm trying to avoid. I also like the Five Seven. I'm open to alternatives, although my biggest question is whether a GBB pistol would be a bad idea for a noob. :D

I'm also tempted to get a shotgun, although this is likely to be later on when my budget permits such extravagance. I'd probably plump for a SPAS-12 with folding stock. No real reason other than the fact I like it, so ner.

Also, whilst I'm asking about weapons, a friend who is looking to get into Airsoft at some point is wondering what DV's (and other site's) stance would be on the AK-47 RPK and whether it would be classed as a support weapon or a normal AEG, or would it depend on the mags fitted?

I look forward to your advice, tips and beratement for shoddy weapon choices. :bravo:

Dragon Valley / November 21st Game
« on: November 15, 2010, 01:26:07 am »
Apologies if this topic has been started elsewhere already, I couldn't see it.

I've just booked my place for the Nov 21st game. It'll be my first game of Airsoft too, which will probably turn me into a BB magnet. Especially as I'm likely to be wearing my silly hat and possibly some loud coloured combats :P.

Question: I will be renting an AEG. Does the cost of the rental also include some BBs? The 'Costs' section of the website makes no mention of it...

General Discussion / Hello ladies...
« on: November 08, 2010, 11:12:53 am »
Hello all.

Just registered here, thought I'd say 'hi'. So, err, hi!

I've been looking around for some kit for another purpose and starting looking into Airsoft kit and the hobby itself. I've been watching some videos on YouTube and it looks to be about as much fun as you can have with a group of men and women rolling around in forests without taking your clothes off. I've also been whoring a bit over on Zeroin for a few days now, mostly asking for newb advice on kit and stuff and asking what are probably very stupid questions. :P

Anyway, I live in Bridgend so I'm hoping to attend DV in the very near future, possibly at the next event depending on whether I'm free or not. I'll be hiring kit to start with (what are the hired AEGs like? Any good?) with a view to membership (UKARA etc) and getting myself some RIFs a little further down the line.

Giggedy! :giggedy:
